How to Calculate your CRS Score?

What is the CRS rating?

CRS stands for Comprehensive Ranking System.

Each candidate is awarded a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score based on numerous factors, including age, level of education, language competence, work experience, etc.

Note: Calculating your CRS points does not automatically qualify you for one of the three Express Entry program. You must determine your eligibility for one of the three programs before applying. Here are the eligibility requirements for each federal program.

To determine your exact CRS score, you will need your language test results and, if your degree is not Canadian, your Educational Credential Assessment (ECA). If you do not have these yet, you can still determine how many CRS points you can claim based on other considerations.

The Comprehensive Ranking System evaluates the applicant's skills based on six parameters to establish his or her eligibility for the Express Entry Visa:

  • Education

  • Language

  • Experience

  • Age

  • Arranged Employment and

  • Adaptability

The CRS rates candidates eligible for immigration to Canada through Express Entry based on the following factors:

  • Core human capital factors;

  • Accompanying spouse or common-law factors;

  • Skill transferability factors; and

  • Factors relating to a provincial nomination, a qualifying offer of arranged employment, Canadian study experience, a sibling in Canada, and/or French language ability.

How many points can I get under the CRS?

Under the Comprehensive Ranking System, there are a total of 1,200 points available.

For candidates without an accompanying spouse or common-law partner, there is a maximum of 500 points for core human capital factors, 100 points for skill transferability factors, 600 points for a provincial nomination or up to 200 points for a qualifying offer of arranged employment, and up to 30 points for Canadian study experience. Up to 30 additional points for combined French and English language skills, plus a maximum of 15 points for having a sibling in Canada.

For candidates with an accompanying spouse or common-law partner, the following points are available: a maximum of 460 points for the core human capital factors of the principal applicant; a maximum of 40 points for the core human capital factors of the spouse or common-law partner; 600 points for a provincial nomination; or up to 200 points for a qualifying offer of arranged employment; and up to 30 points for Canadian study experience. A maximum of 15 points for a sibling in Canada (only one sibling of the lead candidate and the accompanying spouse/common-law partner is considered).

Applicants with the top scores are invited to apply for a Canadian Permanent Residence.

How does the CRS Calculator calculate CRS points?

The points calculator assists in calculating the points earned based on major factors such as age, education, work experience, language proficiency, and so on. Candidates who achieve a high CRS score using the Express Entry Point Calculator can join the Express Entry candidate pool.

As previously stated, Express entry candidates are assigned CRS points based on a variety of factors.

  1. Core Human Capital + Spouse/common-law partner + Skill Transferability = 600 CRS Points

  2. Other Factors (Provincial Nomination, French Language Proficiency) = 600 CRS points.

A candidate can earn a maximum of 1200 CRS points.
